In less than a month's time, the 2025 edition of the Asia Cup will kick off in the UAE as eight teams will fight it out for the continental glory.

The tournament will be played in the T20 format. Eight teams will be divided equally into two groups and two teams from each group will then qualify for the semi-final stage.

Defending champions India have been clubbed in Group A alongside arch-rivals Pakistan and the two teams will face off for the first time in the tournament on September 14.

India are gearing up for their title defence and are likely to announce their squad next week, as per multiple reports. Considering the talent pool that the Men in Blue possess in their ranks, head coach Gautam Gambhir has his task cut out ahead of the team selection, along with BCCI chief selector Ajit Agarkar.

As per reports, India's Test captain Shubman Gill could be included in the travelling squad for the Asia Cup and could be named as the team's vice-captain in the shortest format, while Suryakumar Yadav will continue to lead the team in the T20 format.

With the presence of in-form top-order batters like wicket-keeper Sanju Samson and flamboyant opener Abhishek Sharma, Gill's presence in the team could effectively shut the door on Rajasthan Royals' explosive opener Yashasvi Jaiswal, who has done fairly well for the Indian national team across all formats.

As speculations rise over Jaiswal's possible omission from India's Asia Cup 2025 T20 squad, we compare the stats of Gill and the southpaw in the shortest format.

Yashasvi Jaiswal vs Shubman Gill: Who has had a better T20 career?

When it comes to strike rate in domestic or T20Is or even in the Indian Premier League, Jaiswal is miles ahead of Gill, as the southpaw has consistently maintained a strike rate over 150.

Gill has more runs and has played more matches than Jaiswal and has also maintained a better average in overall T20 cricket. For India, Jaiswal pips the Indian Test skipper.

The final decision will be taken by the selection committee and the head coach, but going by stats, neither Gill nor Jaiswal should be left out of the squad for a crucial competition like Asia Cup, where international experience counts.
