What is India’s record at Lord’s? Poor history looms large ahead of IND vs ENG 3rd Test image

India’s next battle in the five-Test series against England begins at a historic venue- Lord’s, London.

After their record-breaking win at Edgbaston, where Shubman Gill’s team thrashed England by 336 runs to level the series 1-1, India is riding high on confidence.

But as they head into the third Test on July 10, they must face a venue that hasn’t always been kind. Despite recent success, India’s past at Lord’s is filled with painful defeats.

In nearly a century of matches at this ground, they have only managed to win three times out of 19. With the third Test starting at 3:30 PM IST, the team will hope their form carries forward.

How has India performed overall at Lord’s?

India’s long-standing battle with Lord’s has seen more lows than highs. The team played their first Test at the venue in 1932, but it took them 54 years to finally register a win here.

That first victory came in 1986 under Kapil Dev’s leadership. Since then, only two more wins have followed, one in 2014 and another in 2021.

But in total, out of 19 matches, India have lost 12, drawn 4, and won just 3.

Though India's overall record at this venue is dismal, things have started to shift in the last decade. India won in 2014 under MS Dhoni, thanks to Ishant’s short-ball masterclass.

They also won in 2021 under Virat Kohli with a memorable 151-run win, where KL Rahul scored a brilliant hundred and the bowlers dominated the final day.
