India all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja has been under the hammer for his lackluster performances in the first Test vs. England at Headingly.
The veteran all-rounder's return with the bat wasn't too good, as he scored just 11 and 25 in both innings, respectively. His output with the ball wasn't too bright either, as he picked up just one wicket in the entirety of the match.

Many former players and experts have come forward and criticized Jadeja for his lack of discipline with the ball at a crucial juncture of the game. Many feel that the all-rounder didn't make good use of the rough on Day 5 and should have taken more responsibility being one of the senior-most players in the squad.
Jadeja's recent form in Tests has been a real concern for the Indian national team, with the all-rounder failing to live up to the expectations one series after another.
In this article, The Sporting News takes a look at how Jadeja has performed for India in the recent past and how it has affected the team in return.

How has Ravindra Jadeja performed in Tests for India since 2024?
The veteran all-rounder had a fairly good series against subcontinent neighbors Bangladesh, where he picked up nine wickets in two matches. He struck a half-century in the first Test too, which showed promise of a good season ahead.
Against New Zealand, Jadeja performed more than enough with the ball, as he picked up a total of 16 wickets in the series, but his returns with the bat seemed to be very low according to his standards. India lost the series 0-3, which marked the team's first series loss on home soil after 12 years.

The all-rounder failed to live up to the expectations against Australia, as his highest score in the series was just 77 in a drawn match in Brisbane. He picked a total of 4 wickets in the whole series, having not played the first two games. India lost the series 1-3 and failed to qualify for the finals of the World Test Championship (WTC) in June.
Matches | Runs | Batting average | Highest score | Wickets | Bowling average |
8 | 334 | 25.69 | 86 | 29 | 24.20 |
Jadeja has played 8 Test matches since 2024, accumulating just 334 runs in the process. However, his bowling returns have been according to the standards he has set so far in his career.
Should India be concerned about Jadeja's recent Test form?
Ravindra Jadeja has struggled outside India, with his batting and bowling performances seeing a significant drop. Since the Test series against New Zealand in India, Jadeja's bowling average stands at 35.00, while his batting average has hit an all-time low of 23.00. Check the tweet below.
Yet to cross 30 in his last six innings 😐

Has gone wicketless five times in 12 innings 😲
It’s been a quiet few months for Ravindra Jadeja in Test cricket.#ENGvIND pic.twitter.com/2gHKj4rVBL
In his last six Test innings, the all-rounder is yet to cross the 30-run mark. Jadeja has gone wicketless in his last 12 Test innings, which clearly shows a significant drop in his form.
However, his experience is something the Indian team management is finding difficult to ignore. Other options like Washington Sundar, who did a pretty good job against New Zealand, was overlooked in the Test series against Australia.
It seems India doesn't want to do away with the idea of a spin-bowling option who can bat at the tail end too. But considering Jadeja's recent Test form, maybe it's time to look at younger options in the form of Sundar or Nitish Kumar Reddy, who can bowl fast and bat as well when the conditions are tough.
