Batters from both sides turned the series into a run-fest, piling on big scores throughout the five Tests. Together, the two team's batters scored 21 centuries as they thoroughly dominated throughout the five games.

But while many batters raised their bats for hundreds, some top-order names failed to join the party. The Sporting News looks at those who missed out.

While most of the top-six batters from both sides notched up centuries, a few failed to convert their starts in what was otherwise a high-scoring series.

India's Sai Sudharsan, who batted at No. 3 in three Tests, couldn’t register a century. The Tamil Nadu batter brought up his maiden fifty in Manchester but couldn’t build on it. Karun Nair also missed out, going century-less across four games in the series.

English opener Zak Crawley became the only English top-order batter to go without a ton in the series. Crawley scored nearly 300 runs in the series, however, failing to score a big ton.

The series saw some extraordinary batting performances throughout the five games. In a hard-fought, high-scoring series, India skipper Shubman Gill ended up with the most runs, scoring 754, which included 4 centuries.

Gill was followed by England's legend Joe Root, who also became the second-highest run scorer in Test history, just behind Sachin Tendulkar.
