'No one remembers Bumrah's IPL wickets' - MI should've rested India star in 2025 season, says Dilip Vengsarkar image

Managing Jasprit Bumrah's workload has been a hot topic amongst fans and former cricketers, with each offering different opinions on how India must go about things.

After Bumrah missed the final Test at the Oval despite having two days of rest after the previous Test and a week before the Edgbaston Test, many believe he could have pushed his limits and played the match.

The management announced well before the series that they would advise the bowler to play only three Test matches, deciding which ones he would play.

Former chairman of selectors Dilip Vengsarkar also weighed in, stating that Bumrah should have rested during the IPL to stay fully available for India in the Tests.

What did Dilip Vengsarkar say about Jasprit Bumrah?

Despite missing the start of the IPL 2025 season, Bumrah joined the squad and played 12 matches, scalping 18 wickets, including the best figures of 4/22.

During his recent interview with the TOI, the former India batter spoke about Bumrah's importance in this Indian team on an iconic away tour.

"Considering the importance of the India versus England Tests series and his fragile back, Bumrah should have been told by the BCCI, selectors and the Indian team management to miss IPL 2025. It was very important that we had a fully fit and refreshed Bumrah for this iconic series," said Vengsarkar.

He also said felt that had he been a selector, he would have successfully persuaded the Mumbai Indians' owner and the bowler himself to opt for rest during the summer ahead of the Tests.

No fan will remember Jasprit Bumrah's wickets in IPL

The 69-year-old believes nobody would remember the speedster's 18 wickets in the IPL; on the contrary, they would speak about the great efforts from the Indian team in England to draw the series.

"Who remembers the runs and wickets taken in the IPL? However, people will remember Mohammed Siraj's lion-hearted performance in this series (23 wickets), Shubman Gill (754 runs), KL Rahul (532 runs), Yashasvi Jaiswal (411 runs) and Rishabh Pant's (479 runs) sublime batting, and Washington Sundar's superb all-round performance (284 runs & 7 wickets)," he concluded.

In three matches that Bumrah played in the series, he took 14 wickets in 5 innings, including 2 five-wicket hauls at Headingley and Lord's.

He averaged just 26.00 with the ball and ended the series with the second-best Indian bowler, behind Siraj's 23 wickets.
