Over the years, the India vs. Bangladesh matches have seen many heated moments, one of which took place during the Emerging Asia Cup 2023.

While batting first in the 2nd semi-final in Colombo, India were bowled out for just 211, where captain Yash Dhull top-scored with 66(85) to his name.

One of the moments that went viral from Bangladesh's run chase was Soumya Sarkar's wicket, in which Harshit Rana looked animated in an exchange with Sarkar.

During a recent appearance on the Ranveer Allahbadia's podcast, Rana spoke about the constant abuses from the Bangladesh team. He revealed that Bangladesh instigated the altercation, forcing India to retailiate.

Among the stars involved in the fights from the Indian side were Abhishek Sharma, Riyan Parag and the Rana himself.

"It is like a norm that India and Bangladesh players often fight — Sitanshu Kotak was our coach and we were bowled out for 160-odd while batting first. And the way they were hurling abuses towards me and Yash Dhull during that innings," said the Kolkata Knight Riders bowler.

"We agreed with him [Kotak] when he said 'we don't need to fight on the ground, just defeating them is enough,' but the players from Delhi and Punjab didn't take it lightly," he added.

"They scored 70-odd runs without loss before we started picking wickets. We were there to play the U23 Emerging Asia Cup, while they were international players. I was celebrating on my own, but he [Soumya Sarkar] said something and things heated up. We abused every batter after that. The match referee later fined us," he laughed.

The 23-year-old also said that left-arm spinner Rakibul Hasan was one of the Bangladesh players who abused the Indians the most.

Rana finished the match with 9(14) and 0/16 in one over bowled. He later went on to become a star player in KKR's run to their first Indian Premier League title in 2024.

He made his Test debut for India in Perth during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in November 2024, before eventually becoming one of India's all-format players by February.
