The countdown has begun for the Asia Cup 2025, which will light up the cricket calendar this September in the UAE.

The competition is set to bring together the top cricketing nations of Asia once again. More than just a tournament, the Asia Cup has always carried rivalries which makes it one of the most followed events in the region.

This edition will be played in the T20 format. Fans are waiting eagerly to see which squad combinations take the field. 

What is the format of Asia Cup 2025?

The Asia Cup will feature eight teams which are divided into two groups. The best four sides will progress to the Super Four stage before heading to the grand finale.

A total of 19 matches are on the schedule, with Dubai and Abu Dhabi sharing hosting duties. The opening match will see Afghanistan take on Hong Kong, while India begins its campaign a day later against UAE.

But the biggest clash, as always, will be the India vs Pakistan fixture on September 14, which is expected to grab the spotlight across the cricketing world.

Which teams have dominated the Asia Cup in the past?

India remains the most successful side in the history of the competition with eight titles. Sri Lanka follows close behind with six championships, while Pakistan has lifted the trophy twice. 

Since 2016, the format has alternated between ODIs and T20Is. This year it returns in the T20 format.
