Thailand vs. India expected lineups, where to watch, team news, score prediction: Chhetri, Colaco to feature for Blue Tigers image

Old foes India and Thailand are set to lock horns once again in a midweek international friendly at Thammasat Stadium in Pathum Thani, as both sides gear up for next week's AFC Asian Cup qualifiers.

India will be riding high on the momentum of four-game unbeaten run and the return of veteran Sunil Chhetri, as they take on one of their most familiar non-South Asian adversaries on Wednesday evening.

India versus Thailand is a fixture steeped in history, spanning tournaments from the Asian Games and Asian Cup to the King's Cup and Nehru Cup. The rivalry began in 1962 at the Asian Games in Jakarta, where India triumphed 4-1, and since then, the two teams have clashed 25 times.

Thailand holds the edge with 11 wins to India’s 7, while 7 games have ended all square.

However, the tide has turned in recent meetings. India stunned Thailand 4-1 in their 2019 Asian Cup opener in Abu Dhabi and followed it up with a gritty 1-0 win later that year in the King's Cup — on Thai soil, no less, clinching the bronze medal. The stage is set for another chapter in this storied rivalry.

Here's our predictions and tips to make this match even more exciting.

Thailand vs. India predicted lineups, team news

Veteran midfielder Chanathip Songkrasin will wear the captain's armband for Thailand, bringing a wealth of experience with 70 international caps. The Pathum United star has just wrapped up a standout season, notching five goals and 13 assists in 38 outings across all competitions for his club.

With in-form striker Patrik Gustavsson likely to be unavailable, the attacking demands are expected to fall on the shoulders of 26-year-old Buriram United striker Supachai Chaided, who netted 10 goals in 28 games for his club this season.

Thailand predicted lineup (4-5-1, right to left): Khammai — Dolah, Ballini, Haiprakhon, Kraikruan — Songkrasin, Doloh, Davis, Wonggorn, Panya — Chaided.

On the Indian side, head coach Manolo Marquez has handed a call-up to 20-year-old Suhail Ahmad Bhat following his breakout campaign with Mohun Bagan Super Giant.

India's all-time great Sunil Chhetri, who came out of retirement at 40 earlier this year, is once again a focal point after finding the net recently against North 24 Parganas.

Another name to watch is Liston Colaco. The Mohun Bagan winger is in red-hot form, having just opened his goalscoring account for the national team and chipped in with an assist in India's 3-0 win over Maldives.

Though he was quiet against Bangladesh in March, Colaco will be eager to make his presence felt when India lock horns with the War Elephants.

India predicted lineup (4-5-1, right to left): Kaith — Bose, Bheke, Thangjam, Jhingan — Wangjam, Ralte, Colaco, Fernandes, Kumam — Chhetri.

TSN's Score Prediction: India 2-1
