The final Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy between India and England kicks off at The Oval on July 31, and fans can expect a high-stakes battle.

India head into this decider with renewed confidence after their superb fightback in the fourth Test at Old Trafford where they batted over 140 overs in their second innings to secure a dramatic draw and the bookmakers rate them as a 35% chance to win this latest meeting.

Rishabh Pant’s injury has opened the door for Dhruv Jurel to take up wicketkeeping duties, while the management has decided to rest Jasprit Bumrah as part of their workload strategy. Akash Deep looks set to return from injury, and Arshdeep Singh may finally receive his maiden Test cap after recovering from a practice-session setback.

England have added firepower by recalling Jamie Overton, the Surrey all-rounder who last played a Test in 2022. The rest of their squad remains unchanged, reflecting confidence in the players who earned a hard-fought draw at Old Trafford. The series remains finely balanced at 2-1, and both teams are eager to finish strong.

Both teams will be eager to seize the momentum in London with the series hanging in the balance. In this article, we break down the latest live betting odds, match predictions, and expert tips for this all-important 5th Test showdown.

India vs. England: Expected playing XIs and team news

India will take confidence from their draw in the fourth Test where they fought back after being under pressure for most of the match. After conceding 669 and slipping to 0-2, centuries from KL Rahul, Shubman Gill, Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar helped them reach 425/4 and save the game.

Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal are likely to open with Rahul in excellent form this series. Captain Gill has been outstanding too - leading from the front with over 700 runs.

With Rishabh Pant injured, Dhruv Jurel will take over wicket-keeping.

India may make a few changes to the bowling attack with Bumrah possibly rested and Kuldeep Yadav likely to return. Mohammed Siraj will lead the pace.

India Probable Playing XI:

  • Yashasvi Jaiswal
  • KL Rahul
  • Sai Sudharsan
  • Shubman Gill (c)
  • Dhruv Jurel (wk)
  • Ravindra Jadeja
  • Washington Sundar
  • Kuldeep Yadav
  • Akash Deep
  • Arshdeep Singh
  • Mohammed Siraj

England will be eager to seal the series with a win in the final Test. They dominated most of the fourth match at Manchester but couldn't finish the job as their bowlers struggled to break partnerships on the last day.

Still, their overall form has been good. Jamie Smith has been a standout performer - scoring crucial runs down the order and averaging 85.

Joe Root and Harry Brook have been steady in the middle order while Ben Duckett and Zak Crawley have kept things moving at the top. Crawley's return to form with 84 in the last Test was a welcome sign.

With the ball, Ben Stokes has led the way with 17 wickets often striking in key moments but he has been ruled out of the fifth Test due to a right shoulder strain.

Jamie Overton, Josh Tongue, Gus Atkinson and Jacob Bethell have been drafted in as replacements with Jofra Archer, Liam Dawson and Brydon Carse also sitting out.

England Confirmed Playing XI:

  • Zak Crawley
  • Ben Duckett
  • Ollie Pope (c)
  • Joe Root
  • Harry Brook
  • Jacob Bethell
  • Jamie Smith (wk)
  • Chris Woakes
  • Gus Atkinson
  • Jamie Overton
  • Josh Tongue
