The Asian Games is part of the holy trinity of multi-sport events for India, along with the Olympics and the Commonwealth Games.

The Asiad is a quadrennial event and the 18th edition was held in 2018 in Jakarta and Palembang in Indonesia. 

A total of 37 countries participated in the 2018 Asian Games. China, Japan, and South Korea were the top three countries in terms of medals won, while India finished eighth.

India sent a contingent of 570 athletes across 36 sports disciplines.

The contingent finished eighth at the event. India's total tally of 70 medals was their best ever medal haul at the continental mega-event.

When will the next Asian Games be held?

The next edition of the Asian Games will be held in 2023. The event was postponed from its usual cycle (2022) due to the COVID-19 Pandemic.

The 19th edition of the Asian Games will be held in Hangzhou, China, from 23rd September to 8th October 2023. A total of 40 sports will be played at the 2023 Asian Games.
