Angel Reese made a curious decision on Monday.
Rather than practice with her Chicago Sky teammates with less than two weeks until the WNBA regular season tips off, Reese was in New York City.
She's part of the host committee for the Met Gala and is at that event instead.
Reese played on Saturday in the Sky's exhibition opener, then practiced on Sunday before leaving for NYC.
The team excused her absence.
Sky head coach Tyler Marsh had thoughts on the matter.
"She's handled it great," Marsh told reporters. "She puts in a ton of work in the offseason, during the season, extra work. She explained to her teammates that she would be there, and as an organization, we're supportive on and off the court. It's a great experience, great opportunity, and we're supportive of it."
Reese is entering her second WNBA season after starring at LSU.
She set all sorts of rebounding records as a rookie while also operating as one of the league's most popular players.
"Any time that we can showcase and highlight the personalities of the players in our league, no matter what team they're from, I think it's a good thing," Marsh said. "We want to continue to increase the popularity on and off the court."
Reese will certainly catch plenty of attention at the Met Gala. Maybe even a little extra after skipping out on basketball preparations to be there.
Soon enough, she'll be back on the court with lots of eyes on her there, too.
