The San Antonio Missions, the Double-A affiliate of the San Diego Padres, are set to host a game for flood relief on Aug. 9 at Nelson Wolff Stadium.
The Missions will wear jerseys of the four high schools affected by the catastrophic flooding in the Hill Country earlier this month, which claimed 134 lives. The special Kerrville Tivy, Comfort, Center Point and Ingram Tom Moore jerseys will be signed by Missions players and auctioned off during the game.
Proceeds will go to the Kerr County Flood Relief Fund and help support the field restoration of Ingram Little League in partnership with the Round Rock Express (Triple-A affiliate of the Texas Rangers), the Nolan Ryan Foundation and RS3 Turf.
Basketball Hall of Famer, San Antonio Spurs legend and Missions part-owner Manu Ginobili will throw out the first pitch to a student-athlete from one of the high schools for the Texas League game against the Springfield Cardinals. Ginobili will also wear one of the high school jerseys.
"Our hearts are heavy as we witness the devastating flooding that has impacted so many across the Texas Hill Country," Missions President Burl Yarbrough said in a press release. "As a proud part of Central Texas, the Missions are committed to supporting our neighbors as they begin to recover and rebuild."
Texas legends Ryan, Roger Clemens, Craig Biggio and David Robinson, another former Spur, are also part-owners of the Missions, who are looking to build a ballpark in downtown San Antonio.
