It has been a tough summer transfer window for Bayern Munich until now. The German champions have lost out in the race for Florian Wirtz, who chose Liverpool over them. They have tried enquiring about PSG's Bradly Barcola and Athletic Club's Nico Williams, but reportedly, neither of them are heading to Bavaria this summer.

Similarly, Leroy Sane has also left the club after his contract ran out. Bayern tried extending his contract but couldn't come to an agreement with the 29-year-old, who eventually moved to Galatasaray.

So they need players in attack to give support to the likes of Jamal Musiala, Michael Olise and Harry Kane. They desperately need at least two wingers, as Kingsley Coman is also reportedly on his way out.

Therefore, in a recent press conference, senior star Joshua Kimmich gave his honest thoughts on the team needing players from the transfer market after losing out on a few star players this summer.

“You’ll have to ask the club what their plans are. Of course, you have the feeling that we could do something – with Flo (Wirtz) not coming, with Leroy leaving, with Thomas leaving.” Kimmich told reporters at the press conference.

Following his statements, Bayern Munich board member of sport, Max Eberl, didn't take Kimmich's words too nicely. “Jo is on the pitch — and I’m taking care of the stuff off the pitch,” Eberl responded.

However, Bayern legend Lothar Matthaus didn't like the way Eberl responded to a player's concern. He slammed the board member for his comments, but continues to put his faith in him to make good signings for the Bavarians.

"Joshua Kimmich said that, after Wirtz did not come and Müller and Sané were leaving, that he had "the feeling that something could be done" - Max Eberl is right when he says the player should perform on the pitch. Eberl is doing his job, but others are still allowed to have their say," Matthaus wrote in his column for Sky Sports Germany

"FC Bayern should be grateful that Kimmich, as a leading player, also thinks outside the box and considers where improvements are needed. That's what sets him apart and makes him so important to the club."

"Eberl was told he had to generate funds first and cut wages, which has now happened. FC Bayern has raised some money to go and buy again and bring in a player of the highest caliber. They've looked at a few names and have certainly already spoken to them. Negotiations are ongoing."

Who are Bayern Munich chasing this summer?

Bayern Munich are desperately chasing a left-winger this summer, and they initially identified Barcola as an ideal player to feature on the left flank, but PSG are reportedly in no mood to sell the French youngster.

The Bavarians allegedly also met Williams' agent over a potential move to Bavaria, but now recent reports suggest that he may prefer a move to Barcelona over Bayern. So it hasn't been an easy summer transfer window for the Germans.

If they miss out on both their top targets, Bayern Munich have alternatives in AC Milan's Rafael Leao, Brighton's Kaoru Mitoma and Liverpool's Cody Gakpo. If Rodrygo Goes becomes available, then the Bavarians could potentially make a move for the Real Madrid star.
