Robert Lewandowski is one of the greatest strikers of this generation. The Polish number '9' is still scoring goals at the highest level despite being 36 years old.

Lewandowski will be 37 on August 21 and will be the main striker for FC Barcelona, one of the best teams in the world. Before Barcelona, he was the star striker of Bayern Munich, where he played from 2014 to 2022.

Things could've been very different for his career before joining Bayern. When he was a Borussia Dortmund player, Lewandowski had the opportunity to join another European giant, Manchester United.

In an interview with BBC Sport, Lewandowski reveals that he said yes to the opportunity to join Manchester United during his time at Borussia Dortmund.

The Polish striker wanted the move to Old Trafford and wanted to be coached under Sir Alex Ferguson. The deal was proposed in 2012, but Borussia Dortmund refused to sell the striker.

Robert Lewandowski Reveals Why He Didn't Join Man United

Despite his desire to join Manchester United, Lewandowski revealed the real reason why he didn't play for the club before joining Bayern Munich. The striker explains that Dortmund didn't want to sell him so soon after signing Lewandowski from Lech Poznan in 2010.

The club knew that in a few more years, Lewandowski would be worth more in the transfer market and that the striker would become one of the best in the world.

Robert Lewandowski: "I wanted to join Manchester United, to see Alex Ferguson, but at that time, it was my second year in Dortmund, they cannot just sell me because they know that if I stay longer, they can earn more money and maybe I can wait one or two years. But yeah, that's true that I said yes already to Manchester United."

When asked if he wished to have played in the Premier League, Lewandowski assures that he has no regrets about his career's trajectory.

Lewandowski is satisfied with his career after playing for top clubs like Dortmund, Bayern, and now Barcelona.
