Barcelona were able to register and play both Joan Garcia and Marucs Rashford for their league opener against Mallorca. The debutants had two very different results.
Joan Garcia
Joan Garcia had a nice showing in his Barcelona debut, seeming assured of himself and showing his toughness which should quickly endear him with Barcelona fans.
He suffered a finger dislocation in warmups and still decided to play. He then took a kick to the face in the game which got Vedat Muriqi sent off and left Joan with a significant bruise.
Outside of his toughness, he did his job by keeping a clean sheet, making the save that was required out of him, and was assured and secure in his sweeping.
His passing was also on point as he completed all his long balls and didn't misplace a singular pass.
This was an ideal start for the new man between Barcelona's sticks.
Marcus Rashford
Marcus Rashford was subbed on in the 69th minute for Ferran Torres and had a difficult time getting into the game.
He seemed like he couldn't quite find the timing of his runs and looked rusty trying to take on his man.
To be fair to him, it was a difficult game state to find rhythm in as Mallorca were just sitting back and leaving zero spaces.
Still, Rashford has to try to make an impact when he gets minutes because there is plenty of competition in attacking areas on the team. Taking advantage of these minutes and earning his place is what Rashford has to do if he wants to secure a permanent move.
I still believe Rashford will come good for this team, but his first cameo was less than ideal.
