Daily Fantasy Baseball Picks: Rankings, lineup advice for Saturday, July 29 image

Saturday's slate of MLB games begins with four in the afternoon and 11 games in the evening beginning at 6:05 p.m. ET. In the afternoon, Jacob deGrom stands tall as the top pitcher pick for daily fantasy baseball contests. A good matchup for Rich Hill, but then it's a major dropoff afterwards. The evening slate is very similar with a top-heavy choices and a steep gap between other options.

After Hill, it starts to get sketchy with possible picks. Kyle Freeland has been pitching well, but he is much better at Coors (3.21) than on the road (4.12) and faces the Nationals. Adam Conley has returned from the minors in dominant fashion, but he isn't dependable. Mike Leake had his best outing after struggling badly in his three outings before that, and Dinelson Lamet and Ty Blach have been up and down all season.

In boom-or-bust options, Kevin Gausman has been pitching better in the past couple starts (2-0, 16 Ks in 12 innings), and that includes a six-inning, one-run, eight-strikeout performance against the team he faces today, the Rangers.  Jerad Eickhoff hasn't been sharp this year, but he's been sharp against the Braves, sporting a career 2.00 ERA in eight career starts. His last three outings have been solid, too (2-0, 22 strikeouts in 15 innings).

Today’s DFS MLB Playbook will feature tonight’s 10-game main slate that has a roster lock of 7:05 p.m. ET. If you’re looking to play the early slate, just know that it looks pretty terrible, and FanDuel doesn’t do it any favors splitting the two 1 p.m. ET games with the 4 p.m. ET games. I would say that DraftKings is the site you’d want to play on if you decide to play the early slate, and it’s a bit of a mess with two high-priced options at pitcher and middle-of-the-road or worse pitchers. Both the Blue Jays and Yankees have two of the biggest expected run totals of the day, so if you’re looking to make an impact in GPPs, I would recommend fading the majority of their hitters. A good strategy that you can consider is paying up for one of the high-priced pitchers (I personally prefer Rich Hill, then Jacob deGrom), and then attacking either the Blue Jays or Yankees (or perhaps both).

As for the late slate, it doesn’t look like there are going to be any concerns about weather. Nevertheless, Corey Kluber is on track to being ginormous chalk, and rightfully so against a White Sox club that hasn’t scored more than three runs in five consecutive games. I’ll be sure to break down some of the better secondary options below. -- Kenneth Le
