The 2022 Winter Olympics got underway before the official start of the Games. Women's hockey was one of the sports that began competition ahead of the Feb. 4 opening ceremony in Beijing.
The women's hockey tournament is composed of 10 countries divided into groups of five teams each. Each team is scheduled to compete in four preliminary-round games, with eight teams advancing to the quarterfinals.
The preliminary round will take place Feb. 3-8, followed by the quarterfinals on Feb. 11-12, the semifinals on Feb. 14, the bronze-medal game on Feb. 16 and the gold-medal game on Feb. 17.

The 10 teams were divided into two groups of five ahead of the tournament. The five highest-ranked teams were placed together in Group A. All teams from Group A and the top three finishers in Group B will advance to the quarterfinals.
Czechia is making its Olympic debut. It has a shot at advancing to the final after reaching the quarterfinals against Finland at the 2021 IIHF Women's World Championship.
