The next class of superstars is set to join the NHL on Friday as the first round of the 2025 NHL Draft kicks off.
The Islanders own the No. 1 pick in this year's draft. Matthew Schaefer, a 17-year-old defenceman from Hamilton, is generally considered the best player in this draft class.
He played just 17 games with the Erie Otters of the OHL this year, tallying seven goals and 15 assists. His season ended early at the 2025 World Juniors due to a broken clavicle.
The Sharks, who drafted Macklin Celebrini No. 1 overall last year, will be picking second this year. Michael Misa is a name to keep in mind here. The center from Oakville, Ontario, played for the OHL's Saginaw Spirit the last three seasons.
Misa had 62 goals and 72 assists in 65 games this past season. While the 18-year-old shares a position with Celebrini, he's mostly considered the second-best player of the draft and could still land in San Jose.
