The San Francisco 49ers still have not extended their quarterback, Brock Purdy. However, a recent report indicates that a deal could be on the horizon.
Purdy is present at the 49ers' voluntary offseason workout program despite his contract situation. General manager John Lynch has noted progress being made regarding Purdy's extension. The team has remained adamant that a deal will be made and that they want Purdy around long-term.
"Yeah, I think there’s been some substantive talks that have this thing going in a good direction, and I’ll leave it at that," Lynch said of Purdy's extension.
The Athletic's Dianna Russini revealed that the 49ers are "inching closer" to an extension with Purdy that will make one of the top 10 highest-paid quarterbacks in the league, in terms of average annual value.
"The San Francisco 49ers and Brock Purdy are inching closer to a long-term extension, according to sources close to the situation," wrote Russini. "The contract is expected to include an average annual value that ranks in the top 10 in the NFL."

The 10th highest average annual salary for a quarterback in the NFL right now is $51 million. That number belongs to Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts. Hurts was also not a first-round pick and has led his team to success. The biggest difference in their resumes is that Hurts has now won a Super Bowl.
Purdy has led the 49ers to two NFC Championships and a Super Bowl in just three seasons as the team's quarterback. The real test will be if he can produce when a large portion of the salary cap is dedicated to him and not the players around him.
