The Los Angeles Rams and Pittsburgh Steelers have been linked to a young quarterback on an NFC contender.

Bleacher Report's Kristopher Knox believes the Rams and Steelers should try to trade for Green Bay Packers backup signal-caller Malik Willis.

"The Rams should have some interest in Willis as a potential heir to Stafford. The Steelers should also consider kicking the tires on Willis. Aaron Rodgers isn't a long-term solution in Pittsburgh, and Willis' dual-threat skill set would fit the system of offensive coordinator Arthur Smith," Knox wrote.

After a promising 2024 preseason with the Tennessee Titans, Willis was traded to the Packers ahead of the regular season last year and filled in admirably for Jordan Love after the 2020 first-round pick went down with a sprained MCL.

Willis posted a 2-0 record as a starter in 2024, and tossed three touchdowns to zero interceptions with a 74.1% completion rate. Whenever Green Bay called upon him, the Liberty product delivered and played the best football of his career.

Los Angeles would be a nice fit for Willis, as the former third-round pick would receive the opportunity to learn from Matthew Stafford and be the Rams' potential long-term solution after Stafford retires. However, Pittsburgh already has a crowded quarterback room, so adding Willis wouldn't make much sense.

Though the Packers could get some draft capital by trading Willis, the 26-year-old is a high-level backup, and it wouldn't make sense for Green Bay to ruin their depth at quarterback in the middle of training camp.

More than likely, Willis will stay with the Packers for the 2025 season, but could be on a new team in 2026, as he is set to hit free agency next offseason.
