The Pittsburgh Steelers have not officially announced who will or won't be playing in the preseason opener on Saturday against the Jacksonville Jaguars, but Aaron Rodgers spilled the beans about his own status.

After practice on Wednesday, Rodgers said he does not believe he will be playing in the preseason opener in Duval. He did add, however, that he'll talk to head coach Mike Tomlin about it and is down to play if Tomlin wants him to.

"Aaron Rodgers said he does not believe it’s in the plan for him to play in Jacksonville, but he said he’ll have that conversation with Mike Tomlin soon," Ray Fittipaldo of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported. "He said if Tomlin wants him to play he’ll play."

As experienced as Rodgers is, he might benefit from getting some live-game reps in the preseason, seeing as how he's working with new receivers in a new offense.

Then again, playing would leave Rodgers at risk of injury, and if he were to miss a significant amount of time, the Steelers' season would be in serious jeopardy.

If Rodgers doesn't play, that will leave the duties to Mason Rudolph and Skylar Thompson. The team's No. 3 quarterback, Will Howard, is expected to miss the preseason slate due to a fractured bone in his hand.
