NFL staffs coaching the 2023 Senior Bowl

The Patriots and Falcons will coach West and East teams, respectively, at the 2023 Shrine Bowl.

Said Eric Galko, director of player personnel and football operations for the Shrine Bowl:

The Falcons and the Patriots are two outstanding teams to be our coaching staffs for the Shrine Bowl. The Patriots have a legendary track record of success and have found star players in previous Shrine Bowls, such as Tom Brady and Tyquan Thornton.

The Falcons are a great organization with outstanding young talent already on their roster. Both teams are going to greatly benefit from getting to coach our players as they build their rosters in the future.

New England coach Bill Belichick and Atlanta coach Arthur Smith are expected to serve in advisory roles, allowing their respective staffs to "possibly coach up a level" or "coach a new position" throughout the week leading up into the game. HBCU fellows will also be featured in a similar developmental opportunity.

2023 NFL Draft prospects with most to prove at Shrine Bowl

Mohamed Ibrahim, RB, Minnesota

Ibrahim is one of the best pure runners at the Shrine Bowl, posting three 1,000-yard campaigns in 2018, 2020 and 2022. The last of those follows a torn Achilles tendon in Week 1 of the 2021 season — an impressive feat that regardless creates questions as to how much that injury has impacted his ability to run.

Another point of consideration: whether Ibrahim can prove himself to be a more viable pass-catcher out of the backfield after having only 22 receptions for 145 yards in five seasons at Minnesota. Reports indicate he has already excelled in pass-catching drills. If he can build off that, he can potentially move up a round or two on Day 3.

Aidan O'Connell, QB, Purdue

O'Connell regressed statistically between 2021 and 2022, but his 6-3 height and good fundamentals make him a player worth watching during Shrine Bowl week to see how much he can improve. Depending on how well he practices and plays, a team could draft him as a developmental or depth player.

Tre'Vius Hodges-Tomlinson, CB, TCU

Hodges-Tomlinson brings a big name to the Shrine Bowl in 2023 — he is related to Ladainian Tomlinson, after all — but he was a great player in his own right for the Horned Frogs. He was one of the biggest risers up draft boards this season, surrendering just 28 receptions for 365 yards in 2022 and forcing 21 incompletions.

The 5-9, 180-pound Hodges-Tomlinson can secure himself as a high Day 2 pick with a strong showing in Las Vegas.
