Broncos acquire Alvin Kamara from Saints in blockbuster trade prediction image

The Denver Broncos have added two big names to their offensive backfield this season, but could the team be looking to make a huge deal this summer?

Alvin Kamara's name has been mentioned in connection with the Broncos for as long as Sean Payton has been the team's head coach. Payton drafted Kamara when he was head coach of the New Orleans Saints and Kamara had a ton of success under him.

Cody Benjamin of CBS Sports, while discussing some summer NFL deals we could see, has the Broncos acquiring Kamara before the 2025 season kicks off.

"Kamara may be a Saints mainstay, but he's approaching 30 with an annual injury history, and New Orleans isn't necessarily geared to compete for meaningful wins in 2025 with a rookie coach and quarterback in Kellen Moore and Tyler Shough, respectively. The Broncos, meanwhile, could still use additional big-play weapons for Bo Nix. And their coach, Sean Payton, was responsible for drafting and unleashing Kamara during his time with the Saints. So what if Denver signed J.K. Dobbins and drafted RJ Harvey? Payton wants depth to win on the ground, and besides, Kamara's best attribute is collecting passes out of the backfield; he could be Nix's top safety valve.

Potential holdups: Moore has talked about wanting to center the Saints offense around Kamara in 2025, which could help ease the burden on Shough. Kamara, meanwhile, has successfully navigated several contract disputes with New Orleans, inking a contract extension as recently as last October; he's probably content standing pat, with $18.5 million due from the Saints in 2026", wrote Benjamin.

He kind of shrugs his shoulders at the Broncos adding Harvey and Dobbins to the backfield this year, but that is kind of a big deal. While Kamara would be a beast in the passing game for the Broncos, it would make little sense to trade for him — likely giving up at least one premium asset — after signing Dobbins.

Though the addition of Kamara would bring major excitement to Broncos Country, he does turn 30 years old in about two weeks, and he is not nearly as explosive as he once was. Still, if the Saints were willing to move him at a discount, it would be something the Broncos would have to seriously consider, regardless of who else they have on the roster.
