Jets' Breece Hall given concerning comparison to Gus Edwards image

Breece Hall was supposed to be a superstar for the New York Jets.

But ever since he tore his ACL midway through his rookie season, he hasn't quite seemed the same.

It's now or never for Hall, who the Jets could let walk after this season.

There are still plenty of believers in Hall, who is both a strong rusher and receiver. But a recent stat from ESPN's Bill Barnwell raises plenty of concern.

He compares Hall to Gus Edwards. Edwards is a plodding running back not even under contract with a team right now.

Here's what Barnwell wrote:

"Hall has just eight carries of 20 yards or more in 32 games since the first game of the 2023 season, which is one more than Gus Edwards, who did that with far fewer carries and is currently a free agent," Barnwell writes. "Hall is a better player than Edwards and offers more as a receiver, but with former New York general manager Joe Douglas and coach Robert Saleh no longer in the building, the people who drafted him aren't around and incentivized to give him a new deal. If he's just an average back or worse, the Jets will be better off spending their money elsewhere."

The Jets also like their other running backs, Braelon Allen and Isaiah Davis. Earlier in the offseason, new head coach Aaron Glenn implied he wanted to get both of those guys more work, so maybe there has already been a plan to move a bit away from Hall.

Regardless of how much Hall plays, though, the Jets need to see some of his explosiveness returning. If it doesn't he likely won't wear the Jets green too much longer.
