The New York Jets led the NFL in an undesirable category last season: Penalty yardage.
And whether correlation or causation, it was the first season in a while that they hadn't used officials much at training camp.
This time around, with new coach Aaron Glenn at the helm, the refs are back.
ESPN's Rich Cimini reported this on Friday:
"Once again, the Jets have an officiating crew at every practice. That had been the case for years, but the officials were conspicuously absent for most of last training camp. It was curious, considering the team's penalty problem. The Jets never gave a concrete reason for it. The whole thing was weird. New coach Aaron Glenn is a man on a mission, looking to eradicate the penalty plague."

Glenn was asked after practice about the refs and the penalties.
"It's no secret that we were the most penalized team in the league last year," Glenn said, via Cimini. "I will tell you this: We are going to knock these penalties out. We're going to understand that undisciplined teams do not win games."
The Jets have plenty of things working against them. They don't need penalties added to the mix.
