When the New York Jets signed quarterback Justin Fields to a two-year, $40 million contract in free agency, the transaction was greeted by some analysts as an expensive bridge QB to whoever is destined to be Gang Green's long-term answer behind center.
But as the months have marched on, Fields is proving to be more than just a bridge. Instead, it's beginning to feel like he is the Jets' long-term quarterback and a guy that the team is beginning to rally around.
Especially coach Aaron Glenn.
“He’s not trying to be the celebrity quarterback, he’s just trying to be himself,” Glenn said, via The Athletic. “And whatever comes with that, it comes with it. So, he’s not trying to impress anybody. He’s going out there and he’s busting his a– trying to be the best quarterback he can be for this team. Everybody sees that — and I like that.”

Justin Fields has never lacked talent. Instead, his pro career has been marred by instability in Chicago followed by a season in Pittsburgh that never felt like it offered him a fair opportunity to unseat Russell Wilson as the starter.
Neither situation is expected to arise with the Jets in 2025. Glenn has already built a more functional structure than any Fields had with the Bears, and no competition on the roster can challenge Fields for the QB1 job.
If there's ever been a time for Justin Fields to establish he has superstar upside, it's now. He's doing everything right this offseason. Now, he'll have to prove he can win games for the New York Jets this fall.
Fields has started 44 games in his career, amassing a 14-30 record while throwing for 7,780 yards, 45 TDs, and 31 INTs. His best season came in 2022, when he threw for 2,242 yards, ran for another 1,143, and accounted for 25 total touchdowns.
