When can New York Giants fans expect to see QB Jaxson Dart as the starter? image

The New York Giants created buzz and excitement around the 2025 NFL season the moment they traded back into he first round of the NFL draft to select quarterback Jaxson Dart.

It's the case whenever a team selects a quarterback in the first round, even if that QB isn't expected to begin the season as the starter.

For the Giants, veterans Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston will be the first and second-teamers, with Dart projected to sit in the QB3 slot for the majority of his rookie year.

But as we all know, the plan for rookie quarterbacks to sit and learn in Year 1 rarely comes to fruition. It's especially true for a team like the Giants, whose head coach and general manager are on the hottest seats in the league.

At some point, Dart will get his chance to prove to the organization that they have their QB-next, but when will that be?

According to to a new projection of every rookie quarterback's likely pro debut, Giants fans might have to wait until the final month of the season to get their first look at Jaxson Dart.

"The Giants' bye is Week 14, which might be the time to make the change if the Giants can wait that long," Yahoo Sports' Frank Schwab wrote. "That would give Dart four games to show that promise Giants ownership is likely going to need to see. Before then the Giants have a tough schedule without any obvious soft landing spots for Dart to enter the starting lineup. But if things are really bad in New York, the team might not have much choice but to turn to the rookie even if he isn't quite ready."

The most important goal for the New York Giants' 2025 season must be the slow and steady development of Dart, who is in a rare and fortunate position not to be rushed into the starting lineup. Wilson is fine. Winston is fun. Both veterans can take the bumps and bruises of early-season losses before Dart trots out of the tunnel as an NFL starter.

But Dart will eventually be the Giants' QB1, and it'll likely be sooner than Week 14.
