As if Saquon Barkley signing with the division rival Philadelphia Eagles and winning a Super Bowl in 2024 wasn't already bad enough for the New York Giants, a new prediction for the 2025 NFL season makes it worse.

Yeah, it could get worse.

Barkley was named among five players who are considered under-the-radar MVP candidates in 2025.

Yep. The former New York Giants running back, now Super Bowl champion, could also add league MVP to his trophy case.

"If Barkley can take it another step and actually take down Eric Dickerson's single-season rushing-yardage record this year, the 28-year-old could become the first MVP at his position since Adrian Peterson in 2012," Bleacher Report's Brad Gagnon wrote.

The single-season rushing record, too?

Giants fans endured one of the most painful seasons in recent memory last year, as they were forced to watch Barkley make good on the NFL projection he had when New York selected him in the first round of the 2018 NFL draft. His time with Big Blue was stunted by injury and poor offensive line play, but there was never a doubt he had the talent to dominate the league the way he did in 2024.

Barkley ran for 2,005 yards and 13 touchdowns, becoming only the ninth running back in NFL history to top the 2K mark.

Giants general manager Joe Schoen will go down in infamy for prioritizing Daniel Jones over Barkley, a potentially irreparable mistake that could cost him his job at the end of the 2025 season.

At some point, fans will move on. But it's still too soon to know if that 'some point' will be 2025, especially if Barkley goes on an MVP run.
