The New York Giants have long been saying that rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart will sit and learn behind veteran starter Russell Wilson and experienced backup Jameis Winston in 2025, with the ultimate goal being that the Giants win enough games to redshirt Dart for the entire season.
But that's not how these things work, especially not with first-round quarterbacks.
The calls for Dart to replace Wilson in the starting lineup will grow louder by the loss, and with Big Blue facing the NFL's toughest schedule in 2025, losses in bunches can be reasonably expected.
As a result, Dart's time as an NFL starter could come much sooner than expected. In fact, NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport called Dart's insertion into the starting lineup this season just a matter of when, not if.
From The Insiders on @NFLNetwork: #Giants QB Jaxson Dart has impressed early, and it's not hard to see coach Brian Daboll is a believer. pic.twitter.com/9MQz20qGTf

Rapoport confirmed that Giants coach Brian Daboll has a hard time hiding his excitement for Jaxson Dart, who GM Joe Schoen described as Daboll's guy the moment the pick for Dart was made.

Sure, Wilson is a solid veteran starting quarterback who's more than capable of steering the New York Giants to a surprising number of wins, especially with the defense they'll field this season.
But the realities of a first-round QB and a head coach and general manager on the hot seat make predicting the Giants' 2025 season pretty easy: Jaxson Dart will be starting at some point this year, possibly as early as midseason.
