New York Giants rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart is enjoying a wildly successful first NFL offseason under the watchful eye of coach Brian Daboll. In fact, Dart has been so impressive that speculation about when he'll take over as QB1 for Big Blue has already begun.

The 2025 season will begin with Russell Wilson as the Giants' starting quarterback, and, if the season goes according to plan, Wilson will be good enough, and the Giants will win enough games, to keep Dart on the bench for a long time.

It's a strategy that's always difficult for first-round picks to handle. They're competitive dudes; they want to be on the field and help their team win.

But Dart is proving to be cut from a different cloth early in his Giants career.

In his media session on Wednesday, Dart displayed the kind of maturity any organization would be proud of when he discussed New York's development plan for him.

"They've had this blueprint and they've done it with different quarterbacks that have succeeded at the highest level. I trust them," Dart said. "For me, I'm just trying to be the most coachable player I can. I want to play well in the offense and operate it at the highest level...I'm not looking for results immediately. I'm a process-driven person, so I'm taking it day-by-day, rep-by-rep."

Dart will likely begin the 2025 season as the New York Giants' QB3, but, in reality, he'll be the first quarterback off the bench to relieve Wilson if the former Super Bowl winner struggles.

The best-case scenario for the Giants this season is to be a competitive team led by a strong defense that wins games that many analysts don't expect them to while getting valuable experience for Dart at some point before his rookie year concludes. It would likely mean Daboll returns as head coach in 2026, which would maintain continuity and avoid a massive rebuilding project.
