Giants RB Tyrone Tracy reveals ambitious goal for 2025 and beyond image

New York Giants running back Tyrone Tracy Jr. will face serious competition for carries in 2025, thanks to the arrival of rookie Cam Skattebo, whom the Giants selected in the fourth round of the 2025 NFL Draft.

But that competition -- and the likely fanfare that will follow Skattebo's every move -- hasn't deterred Tracy from setting lofty goals for himself and his role with the Giants.

"I want to be one of the great New York Giants running backs that's come through here," Tracy said Thursday, "but it starts with consistency, and that's going to start at practice every day."

Tracy has a long way to go before he can be considered one of the Giants' all-timers at running back, but he's off to a solid start after a rookie year that totaled 839 rushing yards and five scores. His production is pretty remarkable considering he was viewed more as a long-term project coming out of Purdue. Remember: Tracy was a converted receiver who had limited experience as a true running back.

"I think consistency is the best thing that shows up in the NFL. When you look at all of the great running backs, they're very consistent year after year after year. So that's what I want to be," Tracy said.

While Tracy certainly proved as a rookie that he has enough of a fundamental skill set to be a factor in a pro running game, Skattebo has a very real chance to overtake him as the lead back in 2025. The former Arizona State star has a hard-charging running style that will serve him well on early downs.

Tracy will still have value as a change-of-pace runner for the New York Giants, which, if I were a betting man, I'd wager will be his role by or around the midseason mark this year.
