The New York Giants are facing a difficult task in 2025. Despite rebuilding their quarterback room with two quality veterans in Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston, and selecting a QB in the first round of the NFL Draft (Jaxson Dart), questions remain about how Big Blue will handle the most important position in the sport.
According to ESPN, the biggest question for coach Brian Daboll to answer at quarterback in 2025 will come from within: Can he resist the temptation of turning the keys of his offense over to Dart?
"Every year, it seems there's at least one team telling us it wants to sit its rookie quarterback as long as possible -- all year if necessary. The Giants signed Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston to make double sure they had capable veteran options while Dart developed into an NFL-ready starter," ESPN's Dan Graziano wrote.
While it's true that teams often beat the same drum when it comes to their quarterback development plan, yet fail to deliver on it, the 2025 season could be different for the Giants. Rarely do those first-round QBs join teams with a Super Bowl winner ahead of them on the depth chart, or a former first-overall pick who's had success in spurts in the NFL.

The Giants have that in Wilson and Winston, making Dart's sprint to the starting lineup more of a marathon.
"Last season's Patriots were starting Jacoby Brissett and saying many of the same things," Graziano wrote, "but they were so bad early on that Drake Maye took over the starting job in Week 6. Unless the Giants are scoring points and winning games at a surprising rate early in the season, it feels inevitable that they reach a point where it's time to see what Dart can do."
Another difference between the Giants and other teams that wanted to sit their rookie quarterback all season is that Big Blue has a championship-caliber defense that will keep them in games all year. Wilson is certainly good enough to keep the offense competitive alongside a defense that might have the best front seven in football. And if the Giants are playing competitive football, Dart's time as a starter will continue to get pushed into the later part of the season.
The most realistic projection for Dart's insertion into the starting lineup is whenever the New York Giants are mathematically eliminated from the playoffs. Maybe that gives the former Ole Miss star two or three starts before the end of the season, which should be plenty of film for the coaching staff to build a plan for 2026 and beyond.
