New York Giants head coach Brian Daboll should have one overriding goal for the 2025 NFL season: Get Big Blue back on a winning track, or else.
That 'or else' is pretty serious, too. If Daboll and the Giants have another embarrassing losing season like last year, when he coached New York to only three wins, his run in the Big Apple will be over. But if he can prove to the Giants' decision-makers that he has a strong plan in place to not only win games, but develop the team's prized first-round pick, Jaxson Dart, in 2025? Daboll might just be around for a while.

In fact, that development plan for Dart is the key to the Giants' 2025 season and beyond. And if Daboll's system proves it can do for Dart what it did for Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills? It'll be a big win -- much bigger than any victory in the standings.
And it's that scenario -- Daboll proving he can develop Dart -- that was recently named the best outcome on offense for New York in 2025.
The New York Giants were a quarterback wasteland in 2024. Daniel Jones, Drew Lock and Tommy DeVito each had opportunities to start and finished a combined 3-14. Head coach Brian Daboll was able to keep his job because it was easy to point to his lack of talent at the position.
Now, it's time to prove he can develop a QB. Starting Russell Wilson and getting the offense to a respectable position early in the season is a good outcome, but the best-case scenario should include Dart getting an opportunity to play at some point.
Daboll made his reputation for his role in helping develop Josh Allen. Now he can save his job and get the Giants going in the right direction by doing the same with Dart.
The Giants are in a weird place right now. Some analysts will say the best outcome for New York in 2025 would be to let Jaxson Dart sit the year and learn behind Russell Wilson. There's some merit in that suggestion. But if the biggest win for the offense is proof that Dart is developing under Daboll, then we'd need to see it on the field, not with Dart holding a clipboard.
Perhaps two things can be true at the same time. Perhaps the best outcome for the Giants is for Dart to sit the first half or two-thirds of the season before making his debut. Perhaps Daboll can mentor him enough by then to prove Dart is already growing under his watch, and if the on-field results are promising, it will be awfully hard for New York to break up the Daboll-Dart tandem.
If there's one thing everyone can agree on, it's that the Giants need Jaxson Dart to be successful. Otherwise, they'll be back in the quarterback market sooner rather than later, which means wins will come later rather than sooner.
