The New York Giants released their first unofficial depth chart of the 2025 NFL preseason, and it came with a few surprises.
Especially for Big Blue's rookie class.
While Giants fans may be hoping for an injection of first-year starters for a team that's still fighting to find an identity, they might have to wait some time before that happens.
Here are four takeaways from the first New York Giants depth chart.
Jaxson Dart is entering a redshirt season
While it's no surprise that Russell Wilson is the QB1, there was at least some anticipation that Dart, one of the Giants' two first-round picks in the 2025 NFL draft, would elevate to QB2 while Jameis Winston serves as a mentor and comic relief as QB3.
And that may still be the case by the time the regular season rolls around. But, for now, it's Dart who's at the bottom of the quarterback pecking order.
Cam Skattebo has a long way to go before getting carries with the first team
Skattebo is nursing a hamstring injury that's costing him valuable training camp reps. He's paying the price for his missed time on the depth chart.
Skattebo is listed as the New York Giants' RB3, behind incumbent starter Tyrone Tracy and veteran Devin Singletary.
Singletary should eventually be a non-factor in the Giants' offense, but any projection that has Skattebo being a key component in Big Blue's rushing attack early in the season might need to be adjusted.
Abdul Carter is a second-teamer
Ok, this one is sort of tongue-in-cheek. The Giants list Kayvon Thibodeaux as a first-team defensive end and Brian Burns as the starting outside linebacker. Carter, meanwhile, is behind Burns.
But let's be real: Carter is starting for the New York Giants, even if he isn't listed with the first string on this depth chart. He'll log starter's reps and will be a foundational player in 2025 and beyond.
Evan Neal is not quite ready to start
Neal's transition to guard after flopping as a first-round tackle is expected to prolong his NFL career. There's been rumblings that he'll eventually become one of the Giants' starting five linemen, but he'll need a strong preseason to get there. He's currently listed as RG2 behind veteran Greg Van Roten, who New York has no long-term ties to.
