Saints' rookie QB Tyler Shough given worst possible criticism during training camp image

Tyler Shough is locked in a quarterback battle at his first training camp with the New Orleans Saints.

The rookie didn't do a good job of making his case on Thursday.

Apparently, the two-minute drill portion of practice didn't go well for Shough.

Here's what Saints columnist Jeff Duncan wrote on X after practice:

"Tyler Shough might have overseen/directed the worst 2-minute drive in the history of the NFL during situational work late in the practice."

That doesn't sound good.

Shough was a bit of a mixed-bag draft prospect. He can throw from a variety of arm angles and was solid at Louisville.

He also turns 26 years old on September 28. He was by far the oldest quarterback in his draft class.

The Saints took him at No. 40 overall, early in the second round, the third QB off the board behind Cam Ward (No. 1) and Jaxson Dart (No. 25).

Remarkably, Shough was in college football since 2018.

He started with three seasons at Oregon. Then it was three more seasons with Texas Tech. He came to Louisville for 2024, throwing for 3,195 yards and 23 TDs compared to six interceptions.

The biggest irony of the Saints' QB competition might be this: Spencer Rattler, who already has NFL starts under his belt, is exactly 365 days younger than Shough.

Shough will definitely need to turn it around to make his best case.
