Patriots' Stefon Diggs gets shaky injury update before training camp image

Stefon Diggs has created plenty of headlines since signing with the New England Patriots.

But the most important thing at this point for the Pats is whether Diggs can actually be on the field.

Diggs tore his ACL midway through last season with the Texans, and it's always been in a bit of doubt whether he'll be ready for Week 1 of this campaign.

The Athletic's Chad Graff recently added thoughts to this, although it's a bit of plus and minus:

"It always seemed likeliest that Diggs would open the season on the physically unable to perform list (meaning he’d be out at least the first four games), but perhaps the optimism from his spring performances can translate to an increased role in camp and maybe even open the door for Diggs to open the season on the Week 1 roster."

The Patriots are still building. With a second-year quarterback in Drake Maye, they don't have to have everything figured out.

But in the competitive AFC East, an early-season Diggs absence wouldn't help the 2025 season get off to a great start.

Diggs did seem to be beating some of the offseason timelines. Maybe he can make Week 1.

But if it's the PUP list for Diggs, it'll be a bummer way to begin his Patriots tenure.
