As the Vikings gear up for the upcoming NFL season, all eyes will be on the new man under center: J.J. McCarthy.
McCarthy, a first-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, missed all of his rookie season after tearing his meniscus. Healthy again, the former Michigan standout has the keys to the Vikings' high-powered offense after the team opted not to re-sign Sam Darnold in the offseason.
And McCarthy certainly has a number of weapons at his disposal from a team that won 14 games a year ago. Justin Jefferson, arguably the best player in the NFL, provides McCarthy a surefire safety blanket. Jordan Addison and Aaron Jones each have a penchant for explosive plays, too.
Much of the preseason will be spent dissecting how McCarthy builds a rapport with his skill players. Last year, in one preseason game, McCarthy completed 11 of 17 passes for 188 yards with two touchdowns and an interception.
