Jalen Ramsey's future in Miami is as uncertain as ever. The former All-Pro cornerback was noticeably absent as the Dolphins opened OTAs this week, and while reporters continued pressing for answers, the team isn’t offering much clarity.
Head coach Mike McDaniel was asked again whether Ramsey would be participating in the voluntary workouts and offered little more than a brush-off.
"I mean, quite honestly, zero has changed since the last time I said anything about him," McDaniel said. "I'm very much interested in the players that I'm coaching on the field today. And I think if you have a team that's focused on getting better each and every day, that's plenty for me to worry about. And I guess I'll leave it at that."
The Dolphins have made little effort to hide that a separation is likely coming. General manager Chris Grier previously acknowledged it, and Ramsey has only added fuel to the fire with his own public comments.
"For the record btw, i’ve loved every city i’ve played in & the fans who supported! the anger is very misplaced at times but sometimes valid too, but real ones kno the intentions always solid! ... a new chapter awaits," Ramsey wrote on X.
One of the teams most heavily linked to a potential trade is Ramsey’s former squad — the Los Angeles Rams. Head coach Sean McVay didn’t shy away from the speculation when asked about a possible reunion.

“Obviously, we love Jalen,” McVay said, per the L.A. Times. “We know him intimately. There would be some things that we would need to be able to do if that was the direction we went.”
What’s standing in the way, however, is the contract. Ramsey is currently making $20 million per year, which creates a major roadblock in any trade scenario. ESPN’s Peter Schrager broke down the issue during an appearance on The Pat McAfee Show.
"He makes $20 million a year, so someone's going to have to take on at least some of that — the big bulk of that," Schrager said. "And the Dolphins are not going to trade him .30 cents on the dollar. So, everyone just assumes the Rams because he played there... I don't get the feeling that the Rams are banging down the doors to make a trade for Jalen Ramsey right now."
Miami may be open to a deal, but the timing isn’t ideal either. As Schrager noted, this isn’t typically when blockbuster trades happen. If a move is coming, it’s more likely to happen closer to training camp — assuming a team is willing to take on the contract. Until then, Ramsey’s future will remain one of the biggest unanswered questions surrounding the Dolphins.
