Even in retirement, teams can save money with certain tricky salary cap undertakings.
That's what the Miami Dolphins benefited from on Monday, June 2.
Offensive tackle Terron Armstead announced his retirement a couple months ago, but it didn't go into the NFL's books until after June 1 due to its "post-June 1" designation.
That allowed the Dolphins to save a bit against the salary cap.
Armstead signed a five-year, $75 million contract with the Dolphins before the 2022 season, and he steps away with a couple seasons remaining on the deal (although we're still doing karakoe).

He had begun his NFL career with the Saints as an undrafted free agent and has started all but four games (during his rookie year) during his NFL career.
Armstrong appeared in 146 combined regular and postseason games and made about $115 million in his NFL career.
The Dolphins could've used him back in 2025 to help protect Tua Tagovailoa. Instead, they'll just try to keep things upright with lame alternatives.
