The Los Angeles Chargers are still several weeks away from the start of the regular season, but the team is already having to rethink its plans at the wide receiver position.

The sudden retirement of Mike Williams brought forward the immediate signing of second-round pick Tre Harris, who was already beginning a contract holdout. The depth chart, even with a healthy Williams, needed more firepower and now, it's a must for this offense.

The Chargers were soundly defeated by the Houston Texans in the playoffs last season largely because there just wasn't enough for Justin Herbert to work with. The team has looked to remedy that situation this offseason, but more work needs to be done.

There will be talk of bringing back Keenan Allen, and rightfully so, and many other Chargers fans will clamor for the team to do whatever it takes to convince the Washington Commanders to send over Terry McLaurin, but the team usually thinks sensibly and thrifty.

Here are some wide receivers the team could make a move for without giving up premium assets.

Romeo Doubs, Green Bay

The Packers already had a crowded wide receiver room before adding Matthew Golden in the first round of the draft. Romeo Doubs, who was suspended by the team last season, has been connected to trade rumors this offseason. Doubs is still just 25 years old and has plenty of football left in him.

Jauan Jennings, San Francisco

The 49ers seem to have a trend with wide receivers asking for bigger contracts. They dealt with that with Brandon Aiyuk last season and moved on from Deebo Samuel this offseason. Now, Jauan Jennings is asking for more money or for the team to trade him

The 49ers could send him on a short trip from the Bay to L.A. and the Chargers could take advantage of a physical wide receiver coming off his best season in the league.

Alec Pierce, Indianapolis

Alec Pierce has shown himself to be a terrific deep threat for the Colts and while he might not offer much more than that, Herbert has a cannon that could find him down the field.

The Colts have Michael Pittman, Jr. and Josh Downs already and moving Pierce could allow for last year's second-round pick, Adonai Mitchell, to get more of a look.

Kendrick Bourne, New England

After adding Stefon Diggs and Kyle Williams this offseason, the Patriots found some new weapons for Drake Maye that could allow them to move on from Kendrick Bourne.

He had a quiet season last year, but he has nearly 300 career receptions and could provide the kind of veteran experience the team needs to help the tandem of Ladd McConkey and Harris.
