The Las Vegas Raiders are predicted to move on from a former NFL Pro Bowler during final roster cuts.
In his latest 53-man roster projection, Vincent Bonsignore of The Las Vegas Review-Journal has Las Vegas releasing linebacker Jaylon Smith.
Bonsignore has the Raiders keeping six linebackers over Smith on the roster: Elandon Roberts, Devin White, Germaine Pratt, Jamal Adams, Tommy Eichenberg, and Cody Lindenberg.
The Raiders signed Smith back in May after a tryout, and the 30-year-old is competing for a roster spot in a linebacker room filled with veteran talent.
Smith, Roberts, White, Pratt, and Adams have all been consistent starters at some point in their careers, though Adams is making the switch from safety to linebacker in training camp.
Las Vegas could elect to keep Smith on the roster due to his experience. However, it would be wise for the team to keep some of their youth in the position group, such as Eichenberg and Lindenberg.
Eichenberg was a fifth-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, while Lindenberg was a seventh-round pick this year.
During his six-year stay with the Dallas Cowboys, Smith was a pivotal piece to the team's defense and even earned Pro Bowl honors in 2019 for his play. Injuries have held back the Notre Dame product's career, and Smith has an uphill battle to make the Raiders' initial 53-man roster.
After playing a preseason contest versus the Seattle Seahawks last week, which ended in a 23-23 tie, Las Vegas will host the San Francisco 49ers for a joint practice and preseason game this week.
