Chiefs predicted to make trade for Patrick Mahomes help on NFL Draft night image

After a disappointing Super Bowl loss, it's been an offseason of reflection for the Kansas City Chiefs.

They haven't made many big moves in free agency, and fans are getting a bit restless.

Next week's NFL Draft is a perfect chance for Kansas City to change the narrative around a bit.

ESPN's Matt Miller thinks the Chiefs should make a trade-up to accomplish that feat.

Kansas City did add left tackle Jaylon Moore as a free agent, but Miller urges them to do more.

Here's his plan:

"A move up in Round 1 would likely be for a long-term offensive tackle solution; I heard the goal would be to move in front of the Houston Texans (No. 25) and Los Angeles Rams (No. 26) if the Chiefs like a specific left tackle still on the board."

It's not immediately clear which left tackle the Chiefs would be targeting.

It's a worthwhile goal, though. Keeping franchise QB Patrick Mahomes intact should always be a priority.

Mahomes took the most sacks (36) of any season in his NFL career in 2024. Even when he wasn't brought down, Mahomes had to do his Houdini act while a middling group of receivers struggled to get open down the field.

Kansas City will get Rashee Rice back from injury, which should be a big boost at wide receiver. Now Mahomes just needs time to stand back and comfortably deliver the ball to the likes of Rice and Travis Kelce.
