Jaguars predicted to add former No. 1 overall pick as next offseason move image

The Jacksonville Jaguars have entered a new era. First-time head coach Liam Coen gets the task of trying to bring the Jags back to relevance.

There's one offseason move they can still make that could help that.

ESPN's Aaron Schatz suggests that the Jaguars should sign Jadeveon Clowney, the former No. 1 overall pick and still-disruptive pass rusher.

"The Jaguars have a strong pair of starting edge rushers with Josh Hines-Allen and Travon Walker," Schatz writes. "But there are questions about the depth behind them. Emmanuel Ogbah is 32 years old and had just five sacks as a full-time starter in Miami last season. Myles Cole had no sacks on 11.3% of defensive snaps as a seventh-round rookie.

"The Jaguars could use a third strong edge rusher who can rotate with Hines-Allen and Walker, and there are a number still on the market. I'm picking Clowney over Matthew Judon, Preston Smith or Za'Darius Smith because his strength setting the edge on run plays makes him a good sub for Walker specifically."

Clowney most recently played for Carolina. He had 5.5 sacks in 14 games in 2024 for the Panthers.

The season before that, he had 9.5 sacks for the Ravens.

Clowney played his first five NFL seasons for the Texans, who drafted him out of South Carolina. He has also played for the Seahawks, Titans and Browns.

The 32-year old has 58.0 career sacks.

Clowney never quite reached his massive potential, but he's been a good NFL player for a long time. The Jaguars could certainly use someone like him.
