Colts' QB battle between Anthony Richardson, Daniel Jones gets update image

Anthony Richardson and Daniel Jones are competing.

So far, though, the Indianapolis Colts' QB battle appears to be a dead heat.

ESPN's Stephen Holder described it as such on Friday:

"There does not appear to be a clear leader so far in the Colts' quarterback battle between Anthony Richardson Sr. and Daniel Jones, with both players experiencing ups and downs through three days of practice. Big plays have been few and far between, but the completion percentages on Friday did improve. Richardson completed 8-of-11 attempts while Jones connected on 7-of-10. This was notable, in particular, for Richardson, who has been wildly unpredictable on short and intermediate throws in his two seasons. Friday might have been his best day on such attempts, coming on an offseason where he made them a priority."

It's a battle that, if you had to guess, you'd think the Colts want Richardson to win.

He's got the top-notch draft pedigree, and it'd be an organizational failure if he doesn't pan out.

Jones is just the veteran brought in this offseason, not a long-term investment.

But the Colts have also had enough QB troubles since Andrew Luck's surprise retirement. They need to take the best guy for the job to try and put together a good season.

It'll take some more time before the winner is clear.
