All summer and throughout the offseason, the Jordan Love critics have been especially vocal. Many have claimed that Love regressed last season. However, that didn’t faze him—he responded directly to the criticism.

“What is a step back, is what I’d ask,” Love said, via Ryan Wood of PackersNews.com. “Everybody has different opinions, things like that. You’ve got to block that stuff out. It’s all about the goals of the team. At the end of the day, I’d say we won more games than we did the year before. So that’s why I ask people, what is a step back? Everybody has opinions and things like that, you try to block that out and just focus on doing me, being the best player I can be and go forward. At the end of the day, personal stats and things like that, that’s all in the back. You’ve got to focus on goals of the team first and foremost.”

As the 2025 season approaches, the Packers’ success will largely hinge on how well Love performs.

“It’s Jordan Love time. Only one offensive player on the roster (two-time Pro Bowl guard Elgton Jenkins), and three players in total, predate the quarterback’s time with the team. He’s on a top-of-market deal, so the onus is on him to start lifting his teammates rather than the other way around. The roster’s still solid, but competitions at left tackle and receiver will help set the course for how far the team can go, and Love’s work through any bumps at those spots will be key,” wrote SI’s Albert Breer.

On Monday, a minor scare emerged when a Packers insider reported a potential injury to Love.

“Jordan Love having a lengthy post-practice chat with Matt LaFleur and trainers Bryan Engel and Nate Weir. Seems to have his left thumb wrapped and was flexing it for them. Love wasn’t limited in practice today, for what it’s worth. He did hand off one ball that I saw with his right hand instead of his left that he’d normally hand off with his left,” posted Matt Schneidman.

While the issue doesn’t appear to be serious, it’s still a concerning development. Love wasn’t able to do some things he typically would during practice. It’s most likely a minor injury, but the Packers can’t afford to let it become anything more. With so much riding on Love this season, they need to be cautious and proactive when it comes to his health—especially with something as critical as a throwing-hand thumb.
