The Pittsburgh Steelers finally traded often-disgruntled wide receiver George Pickens on Wednesday, sending him to the Dallas Cowboys.
In the deal, the Cowboys received Pickens and a 2027 sixth-round pick. The Steelers acquired a 2026 third-round pick and a 2027 fifth-round pick from Dallas.
Interestingly, this move could indirectly affect the Green Bay Packers.
The Packers selected two wide receivers in the 2025 NFL Draft — Texas’ Matthew Golden in the first round and TCU’s Savion Williams in the third — creating what now appears to be a crowded receiver room in Green Bay.
“Wondering if Pittsburgh now raids the Rodgers-approved overage of Green Bay’s receiving room after the Packers double-dipped the position in the draft?” Sports Illustrated’s Conor Orr posed.
Fellow SI writer and NFL analyst Albert Breer responded, “Aaron Rodgers was very fond of Romeo Doubs when they were together.”

Since the draft, Doubs has surfaced in trade speculation and has been listed among the top potential trade candidates on team. A move to Pittsburgh — now without Pickens — would make sense, especially if the Steelers are preparing for a possible Aaron Rodgers signing.
If so, it would be yet another example of a team trying to cater to Rodgers’ preferences by reuniting him with former teammates.
In their lone season together in Green Bay, Doubs caught 42 passes for 425 yards and three touchdowns.
