After winning the NFC North last season, the feel-good Lions enter the upcoming NFL season poised to contend for the franchise's elusive first Super Bowl.
Dan Campbell's battle-tested group won't catch anyone by surprise this year. The Lions are certainly one of the best teams in the NFL on the heels of back-to-back playoff appearances. And the young core enters this year even hungrier after an early playoff exit last season.
Quarterback Jared Goff has a host of weapons to work with on offense, including running back Jahmyr Gibbs and wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown, two of the best young skill players in the league. They helped form the league's highest-scoring offense last season at 33.2 points per game.
And on defense, an injury-ravaged unit will be replenished. Namely, the impending return of star defensive end Aidan Hutchinson figures to galvanize Detroit on the defensive side of the ball. Hutchinson had 7 1/2 sacks in just five games last year before suffering a season-ending leg injury. His return is certainly something to monitor throughout the preseason.
