The Detroit Lions are predicted to cut a 2025 draft pick after the preseason.

In his latest 53-man roster projection, The Athletic's Colton Pouncy has seventh-round rookie wide receiver Dominic Lovett missing the cut.

"The idea of keeping a late-round developmental slot receiver sounds good until you realize Isaiah Williams was in a similar position last year and was a healthy scratch before eventually getting waived. Lovett has a chance to play his way back into the mix, but I’m factoring in the missed time," Pouncy wrote.

Lovett returned to practice on Thursday after missing the last week due to an abdominal injury. The Georgia product missed the team's preseason game versus the Atlanta Falcons on August 8, which would have been an excellent opportunity for Lovett to stand out in Detroit's receiver room.

During the Hall of Fame Game on July 31 versus the Los Angeles Chargers, Lovett tallied five receptions for 31 yards and showed some promise as a viable receiving threat.

Due to his potential and ability to return punts and kicks, Lovett has a chance to earn a roster spot. However, he'll have to make up for missed time over the next few weeks and impress Dan Campbell and the coaching staff.

The Lions will square off against the Miami Dolphins on Saturday after two heated joint practices. Campbell's squad will finish the preseason at home versus the Houston Texans. Lovett must make an impact in those games to obtain a roster spot.
