One analyst believes the Detroit Lions are going to the Super Bowl this season and their first trip to the Big Game will see them meet Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills.
The prediction comes from Aaron Schatz of FTN Football Almanac. Schatz had this to say about the two teams on "Good Morning Football" recently.
“I’m hoping this is not just wish fulfillment because I would love to see these two fan bases get there, but I’m going with the Bills and the Lions," Schatz said.
“I think the Ravens are a little bit better than the Bills, but the Bills have the easier schedule, especially that game with the Ravens that’s in Buffalo that’s going to be so important for home field in the AFC,” he added. “I think that the Lions are going to overcome the loss of the two coordinators with better health on defense.”
One thing the Bills and Lions have in common is that neither franchise has ever won a Super Bowl. Detroit's misery is taken a step further, as the team has never even been to a Super Bowl in its history.
The closest the Lions have come is the NFC title game, with their last appearance in that contest coming in 2023.
Meanwhile, the Bills fell short in four-straight Super Bowl appearances in the 1990s. Buffalo has made a pair of trips to the AFC Championship Game since 2020, only to be thwarted by Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs.
Along with the Bills and Lions, the Cleveland Browns, Houston Texans, Jacksonville Jaguars, Arizona Cardinals, Los Angeles Chargers, Tennessee Titans, Atlanta Falcons, Carolina Panthers, Cincinnati Bengals and Minnesota Vikings are all ring-less.
When you talk about the most interesting possible Super Bowl matchups, there's no doubt that Lions versus Bills is at or near the top of the list.
It would be great to see one of the long-suffering fan bases finally get the top prize in the NFL.
