Denver Broncos starting quarterback Bo Nix is looking for any edge he can get going into the 2025 season. There are still those out there who feel that Nix will go through at least somewhat of a "sophomore slump" this coming season. Of course, many felt the Broncos made a bad choice using a first-round pick on him last year.
Call it what you will, but Nix proved any doubters he had wrong last season, quickly. Called a "massive reach" by some, the Broncos happily took Nix with the No. 12 overall pick and haven't looked back. There will be plenty doubting that he can do it again this year as well, and Nix is already doing what he can to be ready for an encore.
When watching Nix play, especially if you're familiar with Sean Payton's time with the New Orleans Saints, it's impossible to watch him and not think of Drew Brees. On Wednesday, Payton stated that Nix spent several days this offseason with Brees.
Brees, one of the best quarterbacks in NFL history, can not only help Nix navigate his second season in the league, but he can provide the kind of insight into playing for Payton that literally no one else can. If you're a Broncos fan, you have to love hearing this news.

Payton had an idea that he'd found the team's quarterback of the future in Nix, but even he may not have seen him being as successful as he was as a rookie. If not for the incredible season Jayden Daniels had, he may have won the Offensive Rookie of the Year Award.
Nix will still have his doubters. There will still be those who say he's a "check down merchant" and that he has a "below average" arm. But Brees had those too. Remember when he was "too short" to see over the offensive line? Remember when the Miami Dolphins chose to sign Daunte Culpepper in free agency instead of Brees in 2006? Good call.
The point is, Brees overcame obstacles in the league and plenty of naysayers as well. Right now, he sits at No. 2 on the all-time list in career passing yardage. That's not to say that Nix will follow that, but it is to say that with Payton and Brees, he's with the right company.
